CMSK Certification Program

The NAIOMT PTA courses will help to advance your clinical judgement and develop your hands-on clinical skills.  Complete the full series to earn a Musculoskeletal Certification.

These classes will include:

  • Learning and progressing skills of neuromuscular re-education exercises for the spine and extremities
  • Learning and progressing manual therapy and soft tissue skills of cervicothoracic and lumbopelvic spine and extremity joints of the upper and lower limbs.


Join us for this series of classes that will help you more effectively treat patients with a wide variety of NMSK (neuromusculoskeletal) issues .

Kat Burns

Kathleen (Kat) graduated with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Ithaca College in 2014 and graduated with a B.S. in Clinical Health Studies, also from Ithaca College in 2012. She is a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist, a Certified Orthopaedic Manual Therapist, a Certified Breathing Behavioral Analyst, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy. She did her residency in orthopaedics with Therapeutic Associates (TAI) and her Fellowship with the North American Institute of Manual Therapy (NAIOMT). In addition to patient care, she works as a certified key mentor with TAI's Education Department, faculty with Lane Community College's PTA program, and works as a core contributor for Breathe Your Truth and NAIOMT. Though Kat treats all parts of the body, she particularly enjoys treating scoliosis and using biofeedback for breathing dysfunction. Kat enjoys anything outdoors. She is a graduate of Outward Bound and the National Outdoor Leadership School. Kat also has experience with horseback riding, especially hunter/jumper and dressage. She is a certified yoga instructor and primarily does vinyasa flow. She is originally from Cleveland, Ohio but is happy to now call Eugene home.

Therapeutic Exercise and Neuro Re-ed Spine

Therapeutic Exercise and Neuro Re-ed Spine: This course is designed for the Physical Therapist Assistant to enhance their clinical judgement in utilizing and progressing therapeutic exercises and neuromuscular re-education interventions for the cervicothoracic and lumbopelvic regions. Teaching will include 3-4 hours of online content for followed by an intensive one-day in person lab utilizing a case-based approach to learning.

Therapeutic Exercise and Neuro Re-ed Peripheral

Therapeutic Exercise and Neuro Re-ed Peripheral: This course is designed for the Physical Therapist Assistant to enhance their clinical judgement in utilizing and progressing therapeutic exercises and neuromuscular re-education interventions for the shoulder girdle, hip, knee and ankle/foot. Teaching will include 3-4 hours of online content followed by an intensive one-day in person lab utilizing a case-based approach to learning.

Joint/Soft Tissue: Spine

This course is designed for the Physical Therapist Assistant to enhance their clinical judgement and improve their hands-on manual therapy skills including traction, graded joint mobilization, and soft tissue mobilization for the cervicothoracic and lumbopelvic regions.  Teaching will include 3 hours of online content followed by an intensive one-day in person lab utilizing a case-based approach.

This course is designed for the Physical Therapist Assistant to enhance their clinical judgement and improve their hands-on manual therapy skills including traction, graded joint mobilization, and soft tissue mobilization for the shoulder girdle, hip girdle, knee, and ankle/foot.  Teaching will include 3 hours of online content followed by an intensive one-day in person lab utilizing a case-based approach.

The North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy, Inc. (NAIOMT) is a private physical therapist-owned organization dedicated to achieving the highest standards of clinical practice for manual physical therapists.
