C-720 Advanced Clinical Reasoning

This course enhances the ability to make decisions about the lumbopelvic region through safe, effective, and efficient screening examinations. Participants will identify an evidence-informed approach to evaluation and management through concepts of total patient health, function, life-participation, and pain behaviors. Management strategies will include education, activity modification, manual therapy techniques, and individualized neuromuscular rehabilitation prescription, with the goal of restoring optimal function and preventing future impairments.
  • Course Details

    This course is a "Hybrid" Virtual Choice course with three 2-hour Zoom sessions and a virtual choice 1 day lab intensive in-person or via Zoom. Participants will receive access to the online course materials 2 weeks prior to the start of the course.

Brett Windsor

Brett Windsor graduated as a physiotherapist from Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia, in 1994. Prior to coming to the US, Brett worked in sports medicine in Australia and the United Kingdom before a 5-year stint in Indiana and Michigan. Brett became an ABPTS board certified orthopedic clinical specialist in 2000 and completed the NAIOMT Clinical Fellowship in Manual Therapy in 2003, graduating to fellowship in the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Therapy (FAAOMPT) in 2004. Following eight years as an Assistant professor at DPT programs with Pacific University and Campbell University, Brett moved to ATI Physical Therapy where he served as the Vice-President of Clinical Excellence, responsible for the clinical pathways and care patterns leading to improvements in clinical outcomes. He then served two years as the Senior Vice-President of Sales before becoming the Chief Clinical Officer in December 2020. Brett left ATI in March of 2021 and is now an SVP of Clinical Services with PRN Physical Therapy, and a Clinical Professor with Northern Arizona University. Brett is the Executive Director of NAIOMT and President of Eduglobal Associates, an organization which facilitates US DPT students completing international clinical education experiences. Brett is a published author; his research interests are musculoskeletal PT, in particular the relationship between clinical reasoning and the development of objectively measurable expertise. He also enjoys work-place based assessment investigations and novel methods of assessing the development of clinical reasoning skills in pre and post professional students. Brett is also working to implement competency education programs into post-professional development pathways. Brett regularly presents at regional, national and international programs. Brett was the lead instructor of manual therapy at the Fondazione Turati Rehabilitation Institute in Gavinana, Tuscany between 2007 and 2011 and has been a faculty instructor in the post-graduate manual therapy program at the Kenyatta Medical Training College in Nairobi, Kenya. He holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Portland State University in Portland, Oregon and completed his PhD at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions in Provo, Utah. His dissertation investigated the ability of script concordance testing to discriminate expertise in clinical reasoning related to the lumbar spine. Brett is a past vice-chair of the Washington State Physical Therapy Licensing Board. He currently resides in Bonita Springs, Florida with his wife, Susan and two dogs, Leo and Lucy.
