Academic Accommodations for Students with Disabilities
The institute will permit approved academic accommodations for students with documented disabilities. The student must provide documentation from a qualified health professional that demonstrates the following:
- A diagnosis of your current disability
- The date of the diagnosis
- How the diagnosis was reached
- The credentials of the professional
- How the disability affects your academic performance
- Recommended accommodations
A qualified health professional includes a medical doctor (MD or DO), a psychologist, a psychiatric nurse practitioner, a licensed professional counselor or equivalent (LPC), a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT).
Approved accommodations include:
- Auditory recording devices
- Sign language interpreters
- Extended testing time
- Screen readers
- Voice recognition software
- Note taker
Costs associated with any accommodations are the responsibility of the student requesting the accommodation. It is also the student’s responsibility to provide a request for accommodation in a timely fashion so that it may be reviewed before the date of the course or exam.
The NAIOMT Executive Committee must approve requests for other accommodations or the acceptance of documentation from a health professional not listed here.
Students requesting accommodation must submit a request in writing with their documentation to the NAIOMT Exam Coordinator. The Exam Coordinator will make the final determination as to whether or not the request will be accepted. No requests are guaranteed to be accepted and all decisions are final. There is no appeal process.
